Call your doctor immediately. If you really have the streptococcus
bacteria in your system then, no, you couldn't have surgery while you have
it.

Dave: I agree with Joy. If necessary, go to an Immediate Care center to
get treatment. There may be enough time, if you get treatment RIGHT NOW,
to get any infection cleared up. If you wait til Tuesday, when most dr's
offices will be open again from the holiday weekend, there will not be
enough time for treatment. Even so, I think it takes 2 weeks on
antibiotics to clear up a strep infection. You may, however, find that
it's pharyngitis or something.
At any rate, your best bet would be to see a doctor immediately. Tell him
or her about your upcoming surgery and see what they say.
Good Luck!

I had strep throat a few months ago. I went to Primacare and they gave me
two shots. Within two days I was fine! I am having surgery on June 2nd I am
have been terrified about getting sick. This morning I woke up with a
scratchy throat and I thought "Oh crap!" I guess it was just
allergies. I am fine now! Good luck! I will send a prayer your way! ~Hugs~

Not to scare you, but I got strep about a week before my surgery date and
they postponed me for a month. I was glad though, I wanted to be as healthy
as possible before going in for something like this. Good luck.

I WOKE UP WITH A SORE THROAT THAT FELT LIKE STREP THROAT ABOUT 3 DAYS
BEFORE MY SCHEDULED SURGERY. I HAVE A HISTORY OF CHRONIC STREP THROAT. I
WENT RIGHT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND WITHOUT EVEN DOING A THROAT CULTURE, I
EXPLAINED MY PENDING SURGERY AND THEY GAVE ME A SHOT OF PENICILLIN. I FELT
BETTER BY THE NEXT DAY. DEFINATELY GET A SHOT OF ANTIBIOTICS. ITS LIKE
100 TIMES FASTER THAN A PILL. AND YES, WITH A RAISED WHITE COUNT CAUSED BY
THE INFECTION IF THE STREP THROAT GETS A CHANCE TO FULLY DEVELOP WILL
POSTPONE YOUR SURGERY. YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM WILL BE WEAK FROM FIGHTING IT
OFF.
