Question:
I've hear people talking about a discounted food card they get for restaurants....

Where do I get one?    — Kim L. (posted on May 9, 2003)

You can also print/laminate your own....here's the website (copy & paste to your URL field) http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/restaurantcard.html

Keep in mind that a restaurant is under no obligation to honor these cards. Some will and some won't. I usually just order an appetizer or something that will make good leftovers. Most restaurants will also let you share an entree with someone else, especially since the portions they serve these days are so big.

I got my card from my surgeon. It isn't for discounted food but that the restaurant let me order off the childrens menu since I've had a surgery that restricts my food intake. I don't use it all the time. I usually order an appetizer and eat off my boyfriends plate. It doen't take much to fill me up.

More trouble than they're worth. Buffets tend to give the holders a hard time (Who needs them?) and most reports indicate that the cards are a waste of time.

I have a card but don't use it. There are plenty of "regular sized" people out there who don't eat a lot and they don't get any kind of discount, so why should I?

BUFFETS: I didn't ask to pay more when I could eat 3 or 4 times what a normal person eats, so why should I get a discount for eating less? Also, there are many people that eat a very small amount because they choose to, and they don't get a discount. Why should I, who chose surgery to limit my intake, be entitled to a discount? CHILDRENS MEALS: These are usually breaded and fried or tasteless, I'll pass, thank you. GOOD CHOICE: I would rather make a sensible choice from the regular menu, and if it is great I'll take the extra home. Or I'll eat of my spouse's plate (who makes naturally healthy choices, don't you just hate it!).

I often just ask the server if I can order off the senior menu and briefly explain I've had a stomach surgery "recently". I've yet to be told no and I don't show them a card or anything. Most are very nice. And I agree about the buffets...I figure now they're getting even for some of the extremes I went to pre-op :>)
