I had several removed when I had my lap RNY. It made my surgery about 2
hours longer, but I don't think it made my hospital stay any longer. I
would have been there for 5.5 days no matter what. I went in on a Wednesday
morning and went home the following Monday afternoon. Hope that helps!

I had two surgeries to remove adhesions, about a month after the bypass
operation, and about a month apart. My symptoms were a feeling of
pressure/pain below my stomach, and severe nausea. The hospital stays were
for 4 days each (both surgeries were laparascopic, with fewer trocar
incisions than with the original lap RNY). Recovery was quick in both
cases, quicker than with the RNY; by a week after discharge, I was back at
work.

That's a link to a pretty cool picture of adhesions. WARNING: it's real
guts, not a sketch. But it shows exactly what it is. You can easily see
how it could grab an intestine & pull it into a kink.

I've had adhesions removed on several occasions. It seems that when
someone has had numberous surgeries, adhesions are to be expected. I
didn't know at the time, but since I've had several doctors tell me that
one thing that leads to troublesome adhesions is not taking care of
yourself (doing too much) before being completely healed.
Anyway, I felt better afterward and the recovery for the reason I really
had surgery was not any longer or more painful. So my advice to anyone
having surgery, especially if it's open, is to definitely listen to the
dr.
Good luck.
