Question:
Has anyone with a heart problem had WLS?

and if you did, was there anything special that had to be done.    — franbvan (posted on April 23, 2003)

Hi, I had a triple bypass five years earlier. My cardiologist was the one who refered me for the surgery. You go through alot of test prior to getting your surgery date. One of the test is a Cardiologist consult and a stress test. Before my RNY I was taking meds for my heart, cholesterol and blood pressure problems and now I don't take any except an aspirin daily. The rest are vitamins. The trade off is terrific. I feel much better and I'm not scared of dying anymore. 1yr post-op and down 94lbs. (I guess I'm a slow looser)

My father had wls in Jan. '02 and had to have a pacemaker installed earlier this year (a little over a year out from surgery) because he had an irregular heart beat and had blacked out. Do not know if it was wls related.

I am pre-op, but I did get a cardio clearance for surgery and my surgeon agreed to do the WLS even though it will be a high risk surgery due to my heart. I have a blood clot on the lower left venticle of my heart and I am on blood thinners. I went threw alot of test that my cardiologist gave me, and I am thinking that I will have more when I have my pre-op testing. I have what is called cardiomyothey (spelling) My cardiologist belives that the stress that my weight is putting on my heart is just as dangerous as the surgery. Hope this helps.
