Question:
I'm still addicted to chips! What can I eat to replace them?
I still eat alot of fattening chips, salt n viniger chips. I love chips and I know they are bad, but what can I eat to get that craving satisfied? I eat them as a meal sometimes or just a few bites at a time. 6mo. post-op open rny lost 109# — Sandy M. (posted on April 9, 2003)

I to love chips, but I have not eaten any since my surgery. But found some
soy chips, they come in (I think) three different flavors. I also eat soy
nuts, both have good protein. They satisfay that "crunch" and
"salty" cravings I sometimes have. Hope this helps some.

I eat pork rinds. I love the hot and spicy kind. They also have protein
in them. They have knocked out my chip addiction! By the way, congrats on
your terrific weight loss. That's great.

If you have a WalMart handy, get some Good Sense Soy Nuts. They are a
great source of protein and crunch. They come in barbecue flavor too which
is a lot like barbecued potato chips.

I cannot remember he brand name, but like Mary below, I like the soy chips
also. The 3 flavors I recall are chedder cheese,(my favorite), garlic and
onion, and cinnamon. They can be purchased at a variety of health food
stores.

Hi Sandy, I also love chips and french fries...I like you eat a few now and
then. I am doing good on my weight loss also 104 lbs since Sept.26th 2002.
I eat normal now just a lot smaller amounts. I usually take up a full
serving of chips 17 to 20 chips on most brands but find I can only eat half
of them. I am still losing , lost 3 lbs last week so I figure don't rock
the boat if it's working. Congratulations on your weight loss.

When I feel like eating chips I eat WOW potato chips, WOW doritos or fat
free Pringles.

Glenny's Soy Crisps rule!!! They are a cross between a chip and a rice
cake. They come in plain, sour cream and onion, bbq and chedder. They
have 5 grams of protein per serving and satisfy my chip craving. I love
them!! Genisoy also makes a soy chip tastes almost the same. Good Luck!

I just got a trial snack pack from wlssuccess.com, and they sent me some
protein snack crisps in chili nacho flavor. They are pretty good! I do
like chips...but have found that I have been snacking on them TOO MUCH.

I love chips too! What I like is at Walmart. They have the $1 bag of the
big flat Doretos like chips. Then I get their Corn and Bean sulsa. That is
out of this world. Also they sell the boxes of Cheerios with Strawberry's
and the Ceerios Triple Berry. I snack on them. They are fairly low on
sugar but unfortunatly high in carbs as is everything I crave. However I
figure I could snack on worse things. I eat them dry, usually.

I also LOVE the Glenny's Soy Crisps! I just discovered them recently. And
if you like them, you can order a case direct from www.glennys.com which is
cheaper then buying by the bag (it's about $2 for a 2 serving bag!). My
fav's are the lightly salted, apple-cinnamon, and cheddar cheese flavors.
Genisoy also makes soy crisps, but I haven't tried those yet. Here's the
nutritional breakdown for both brands.
Glenny's: (per 1 serving-14 crisps)65 cal, 1g fat, 9g carb, 1g sugar, 5g
protein.
Genisoy: (per 1 serving-25 crisps) 110 cal, 2g fat, 15g carb, 1g sugar, 7g
protein

I found some really good protein chips at Walmart. They are called Carb
Solutions high protein chips and they are new. I have had both the nacho
and the barbeque flavored, both were tasty. They come in a small 2oz bag, 2
servings per bag it says, 4 grams of carbs and 18 grams of protein per
serving. They are a bit pricey at $1.99 a bag, but I figure for a good
snack, and one bag usually lasts me 4 or so servings, it's not that bad.

The soy nuts and soy chips are a good way to get in protein with a snack
but keep in mind that these snacks still have calories and when you are
further post-op, and getting closer to goal, its still a game of calories
in = calories out. I eat the WOW chips, which are lower in calories and
fat than regular chips but limit the quantity to a single serving. The soy
chips are good, especially the barbecue, and give you the advantage of
protein.

The WOW chips are pretty good. They have WOW potato chips, doritos, and
tostitos. My husband bought another kind of chip the other day called
Baked Lays. They are low in fat and boy are they good.

Since you love salt and vinegar, you might want to try the Salt and Vinegar
Pork Rinds they have out now. I'm not sure of the brand, but we bought
them at Meijer's and they are wonderful!

I agree with the last poster about the WOW chips, they are super good. I
used to eat them all the time when I did weight watchers because I still
was able to eat my chips and only use a minimal amount of points on them.
Anyway, I've had the WOW doritos post-op, as well as the baked lays. They
are very good and I don't feel that I am missing a thing.

For me, it's not the fat that makes me fat, it's the carbs! I'm real distal
- I can eat fat, but carbs just jump right onto my belly and stick!
Try pepperoni chips - buy sliced pepperoni, place on a paper towel lined
plate, and nuke for a minute or two until toasty, brown and crunchy. Yum!
Chips! A couple or 5 will fill me up, satisfy, and no carb cravings 2
hours later, either!

I feel your pain! I'm addicted to Jax cheese puffs... they have the low
fat version but they stink. I think I'll stick to the wow chips from now
on.

i have an idea, try the atkins crunchers, they have bbq sour cream and
onion and orig, they are really good and its a great source of protein and
only 4grams of carbs. so it takes care of the crunchy craving and you get
protein who could ask for more. :) good luck
