Question:
Gentlemem, what items were most useful and necessary for you to have in the hospital?
My husband is scheduled for lap RNY on Wednesday 4/9. I know what I took to the hospital for use after my surgery, but any hints from the men out there about things you didn't need or wish you had taken to the hospital with you? He is a lightweight, as I was, and I have already informed him I will have to kick his (much smaller) butt if he reaches his goal before I get to mine!LOL! (Seriously, I am really happy for him and we are both excited about the upcoming surgery!) Thanks in advance. — koogy (posted on April 7, 2003)

Susan - congrats to your husband...my wife is headed in for her lap RNY
next month (5/6). All I'd suggest is some underwear (after the Foley is
pulled), some slip-on slippers (I don't like the footies that the hospital
supplies - I don't know if your husband is the same way) and a fan (my
hospital room was hot!!!)...JR (open RNY 07/17/02 -167 lbs)

I would suggest a small fan. When I had surgery 2/13/03 I was roomed with
a patient with terminal cancer and the heat in the room was atleast 80
degrees. A small portable fan put on the dinner tray kept the air moving
and a little more tolerable. Good luck. Down 48 pounds

I took plenty of stuff to read, pajamas and bedroom slippers. (I sleep with
the slippers on). I wish I had taken a robe and abdomial binder. One other
mistake I made was in NOT getting a private room. NEVER will I ever get
another semi private room. Read my profile for the hospital stay from hell
and GET A PRIVATE ROOM!

PLEASE, don't forget chapstick. Your mouth and lips are so dry and that
really helps!
