Question:
is it normal for a person to only lose 40lbs two months post op
i started off at 154kilos and tom is my two month anniversary, looking at so many other profiles i feel like i should have lost more weight by now. I have resumed playing rugby and walking. What else can i do??? Any ideas? — Tee B. (posted on March 30, 2003)

The "average" weight loss is 20-25 a month for the 1st 3 months
and then it will slow to 10-15 a month for the next 3 months. You are
right on schedule.

you're right on target, Tee! Not that we should compare ourselves anyway
b/c it can make us crazy- but can't help it sometimes, right! I lost 30 my
first month, then 10 each additional month. I started at 250# and at 10
months post-op I am now 135lbs (only 5 away from goal!) You keep this up-
you'll be at goal in no time! Congrats on your weightloss and goodluck to
you!

Tee, I have to smile when I see a post like this because I'm still pre-op,
and a 40 lb. loss in two months is absolutely amazing and truly
inspirational in my opinion! Every time I come to this site I realize how
situations are so relative and so individual; you're concerned about not
losing more, and I'm absolutely amazed at how much you've lost. lol all I
have to say is keep up the good work!

I'm a SMO person and lost 42 lbs at 3 days short of 2 months, so I am
barely adhead of you, yet I started almost 100 lbs higher than you.
However, for me the fat is dropping off way faster than the lbs. I am down
4 pants sizes in that 2 months, which I think is awesome! I've always
carried a lot of muscle and weighed more than even doctor's thought, so I
imagine it is this degree of muscle that may be slowing my weight loss down
but also may be helping to burn fat. I'll take fat over numbers on a scale
any day. Hang in there! 40 lbs really is awesome, no matter what weight
you started at. Think about whether it would have been worth it to weigh
500 or 600 lbs just so you could say you lost 60 or 70 or 80 lbs in the
first 2 months. I don't think so.

I lost 30 pounds in 2 months--I wanted to lose faster. Now I am close to 7
months out and only 15 pounds to reach my goal of 140.
