Questions for patients of Dr. Nguyen at UCDMC

I am embarrassed to ask this - but I am unsure if I am proximal or distal. I am 2.5 years out and had RNY surgery with Dr. Ninh Nguyen at UCDMC- any of you who used Dr. Nguyen, can you tell me if you are proximal or distal? I thought he basically did just the proximal. Roughly how much intestine does he bypass? I don't want to go visit him just to ask this information.    — Karen R. (posted on March 26, 2003)

Request a copy of your surgical notes/report. You should have a copy for your own medical records file. I requested mine, and found out I had 4 feet bypassed. That equals about 122 cms, which is proximal. Dr. Nguyen may do different types of RNY for different people, so you can't go by what someone else has had.
