Question:
I'm almost 6 weeks, and I can eat right!
Being almost 6 weeks, I've tried a few solids foods. These cause pain in my pouch I can't explain. If I stya on the liquid, all's well but the weight slows down. If I put myself through hell by eating, I notice the weight drops off????? Anybody, please! I love you all! — tommyd1221 (posted on March 18, 2003)

Hi Tom, I would check with your surgeon and see what his program calls for
at 6 weeks out. My surgeon's program has us on pureed foods until 8 weeks
out, then "regular" solid foods. Stick with foods that are
mushy, not too solid, like yogurt, cream soups, cottage cheese, etc. By 6
weeks out I was also eating egg salad, chicken salad, tuna, and other foods
of that conisistancy. Eating shouldn't be that painful 6 weeks out of
surgery, check with your surgeon, just in case. Good luck to you and great
weight loss so far!!<br>Lap-RNY 2 months ago, -72 lbs & counting!

I started "soft" foods at four weeks (now 6.5) and am able to eat
most meats (including pork and beef), cheeses, eggs, seafood, beans, salad,
nuts, small bites of fruit, cooked veggies, etc....but, I must chew them
VERY well and wait a few (1-2) minutes between bites. Unfortunately, every
once in a while I make the mistake of thinking that I can just "eat
and get it over with" (especially with something quite soft like
scrambled egg) and usually end up with that swallowed a brick feeling and
wishing I could bring it all back up. My nutritionist told me in the
beginning that each meal, of around 2 ounces, should take about 20-30
minutes to consume...which just sounded ridiculous at first, but now I find
that 15-20 minutes works well for me. I've also seen other posts where
people recommend setting a timer between bites for 2-5 minutes. Just take
your time and remember to chew, chew, chew. And if taking more time to eat
and chewing aren't working, I would certainly call your doctor. Good luck
and happy losing!
