Question:
2 Months Post Op, Is Occasionally Eating At Taco Bell A Bad Thing?
I am about 2 months post op and I have been craving Taco Bell lately. About two days ago my husband went there and got me one of their Burrito Supremes. I didnt eat the whole thing, I ate about 1/2 of it. Do any of you think this isnt that bad, or do you think this is way too much? I dont make Taco Bell part of my regular diet, most of the time I'm real good and follow my post op instructions. Thanks! — Kris T. (posted on March 16, 2003)

I'm 5.5 months out and I have taco bell ocassionally, but I could never eat
1/2 a burrito supreme. I usually have 1 taco (which I can't finish) or 1/2
chicken quesadilla (only the inside part of 2 pieces - not the dry tortilla
on the outside). I've had taco bell from time to time since about 8 weeks
out.

hi, i had the samething happen to me and at first it was just pintos and
cheese. then at about two months out i ate a taco supreme and it was so
good. i don't think there's anything wrong with eating out once in awhile
as long as it's not everyday two or three times a day. some may disagree
but think about it you had this surgery to be normal right? eating a taco
or half a burrito isn't bad it's when you ate a whole burrito AND a taco
AND a quesadilla that's when it's not good. what's in a taco/burrito
supreme meat/protien, cheese/protien, tomato and lettus/veggies a little
sour cream who cares distal bypass doesn't absorb all the fat anyway and
some tortilla. sounds kinda like a mini balanced meal. just my opinion.

Eating Taco Bell should not be an issue as long as you are skipping the
tortilla or shell etc. Eat the meal and cheeese and other insides.
<p>I have found myself hungry when away from home and have gotten a
slice of pizza and eaten the meat and cheese and a little of the sauce.
I've also gotten a McDonald's ham, egg and cheese bagel without butter and
ate about 1/2 of the insides and threw the bagel away. An expensive way to
go but when you are hungry it works for me. A Wendy's grilled chicken
sandwich with cheese minus the honey mustard sauce and bun is fine also,
although I would only be able to eat 1/2 at best. Wendy's chili (doesn't
have noodles) is another okay option. Small chili equals 2-3 meals. I'm 6
weeks post-op and typically eat 2-3 oz's per meal and 3 meals per day.

I eat there quite often. Of course, I don't get the sugar covered
thingies.

I eat out quite often and Taco bell is one of the places I eat at. Some
days I can eat 1 1/2 hard taco supremes and other I can't even eat a whole
one. I am one of those who had this surgery not to be on a diet the rest of
my life but to eat and live a "normal" life. I am 5 months out,
weighed 275 lbs am 5'3" and have lost 96 lbs. I have ate Kentucky
fried chicken,a hambuger at Mc Donalds with about 6 fries, tried fish at
most of the fast food places.
I feel great!!!You're ok just hang in there and you'll learn whats best for
you.

Kris, you are fine as long as its occasional. I am 7 mos out and have
eaten at Taco Bell a few times since surgery (I think I ate there everyday
the first few wks post-op with the beans & cheese)...For me now, its
one taco as before it was Mucho Nachos, quesidalla and chicken burrito
supreme, plus the coke. Good Luck to you. Heather (Open RNY 8/15,

Eating occasionally at Taco Bell isn't a bad thing. I'm 7 mos. out and
it's an occasional lunch spot for me. I do the pintos/beans and sometimes
get a burrito supreme. Granted I only eat about half of it, but the one
thing you have to look at for at Taco Bell is the high sodium content of
their food. It can make me retain water really badly.

sounds good to me! I am 12 wks post op, and can eat a taco supreme, most
of the insides of a burrito. If I include the tortilla, I can't eat hardly
any of it.
Enjoy!

Taco Bell occasionally is fine. You might want to go to their site and
check the calorie and nutrition content of the different items on the menu.
I know it made a difference in what I choose when I go there now!

My post op months 3-8, I ate at Taco Bell almost every day. At first I
ordered just 1 crunchy taco without lettuce. I would add the mild sauce and
break off the excess taco shell. I could eat about 1/2 of this. Over time,
my volume was able to increase. I switched to a taco supreme and was able
to eat about 1/2 of that. Another choice is the soft steak taco
"open-faced" and eaten with a fork. It is like having a little
salad with steak. The sauce that is with it is perfect. This is just the
right size meal for me now. (and I am 2 1/2 years out). Another fast food
choice is the French dip sub at Arby's. To this day, I am unable to eat dry
meat very well. This sandwich is perfect with the au jus. I just dip the
sandwich until very moist. This is my absolute favorite meal at this time.
(I can eat about 1/2). I have noticed a trend with my eating. I get on food
kicks and eat the same thing for weeks at a time. Eventually, I stop eating
that food. For instance, I now rarely eat at Taco Bell because it just
doesn't have that appeal. I know eventually Arby's will lose that appeal as
well. Just curious, does anyone else do this? I have done this since early
post op. Shelley

Forgot to mention that even eating at Taco Bell every day, I still was an
incredibly fast loser. So, don't believe that because you eat there, you
will not lose as fast. My food fettishes (? spelling) did not hurt my
weight loss at all. Shelley

Their pintos & cheese were a staple for me postop! I still enjoy them
from time to time..I don't do the taco's or anything because the tortillas
and bread type products just dont like me lol

I wanted to reply to Shelley's comment. I am 17 months out. I do the same
thing with a favorite food - eat it constantly and then drop it. Taco Bell
pintos and cheese was one. Wendy's chili was another. 1/2 of a lunchables
turkey and cheese lasted three weeks.... I think a lot of the reason I do
this is because it is not always easy to find a food that sits right. So
when I do, I crave it and thoroughly enjoy it until I get myself totally
sick of it. The really funny thing is also that I HATED Mexican food
presurgery and loved Italian. Now it is the exact opposite.

From my understanding, Taco Bell is a good food choice after surgery....low
in fat and pretty good in protein. Good luck to you!
