Question:
I am looking for some creative ideas for the use of tofu as protein in my diet
I am tired of the same old protein and thought I might give tofu a whirl. Anyone have any great recipes or web sites on the subject? — Virginia H. (posted on March 15, 2003)

Tofu is a really great food. It will pretty much (never exactly) taste
like whatever...like for example...I cook my chicken in lot fat italian
dressing...if you wanted the tofu to taste like that, you'd just cook it
the same way. Basically, it takes on the flavor of whatever spices or
seasoning you add. It does take a while to get used to...but once you do,
its great. So pretty much you can add anything to it. You can add italian
seasoning, garlic, or soy sauce...taco sauce, whatever...you can put cheese
on it (if you can eat cheese)...

Although I think Patsy Nelson has the best recipe for tofu, here is a link
to a great site that has recipes for cooking tofu.

Virginia, I have only eaten tofu a few times, but have recently thought of
using it more often as well for protein. One thing I made was tofu
fingers. That way, it tastes alot like a chicken finger. Use egg and
breadcrumbs to cover the tofu, then you can either fry it or bake it. I
usually bake it for less fat, but you can fry them using a non-fat cooking
spray. Tastes pretty yummy! :)

My mother is a vegetarian who eats loads of tofu, and she gave me a great
recipe for barbecue tofu which I just love. It's pretty simple. Cut the
tofu into thin slices about the size of a chicken nugget (but remember,
thin fryable slices). Sautee the slices in a pan sprayed with Pam
(optional: add onions)until both sides are browned. Add your favorite
barbecue sauce and stir. Make sure all of the pieces are coated and let
simmer for a few minutes, then serve! Delicious!

have a lot of tofu recipes, if you'd like them, feel free to e-mail me.
