Question:
Is Laparoscopic RNY and Cholecystectomy Covered by this Insurance?
I am inquiring about insurance coverage for laparoscopic RNY and cholecystectomy. My primary insurance is Sierra Healthcare Options, Inc., POS. I am employed at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus, in Henderson, NV. I have co-morbidities: Hypertension, GERD, hiatal hernia diagnosed on EGD, thyroid disease, gallbladder disease, possible sleep apnea (I had an overnight oxygen saturation monitor test, awaiting results), history of hepatitis A, fatty liver, heel spur, knee, hip and back pain. I am 56 years old and have been obese all of my life and have tried the following: Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Dolly Parton Diet, Richard Simmons "Deal A Meal", Slim Fast. I am a survivor of Phen-Fen, which I had taken for four years. I recently failed a trial of Meridia (February of 2003). I have researched bariatric surgeons who perform the above mentioned procedure(s). The physician I have selected is located in Fountain Valley, California, Dr. Peter Leport. Bariatric surgery is rather limited in Las Vegas. Can you assist me on how to proceed? Thank you, Dorothy B. Lenihan — Dorothy B. L. (posted on March 2, 2003)

policy has an exclusion on weight loss surgery, but i am currently
appealing it.
