Question:
A question about eating at restaurants on the road

This weekend I will be traveling with my whole family from Michigan to Florida. We will be stopping in Georgia for the first night on the way there and I know the place we are staying at has a Cracker Barrel next door, so I'm almost positive we are going to Cracker Barrel for dinner. I have one of those cards from the BTC allowing me to order from the kids menu, does anyone know if Cracker Barrel honors them? If not how did you get through eating there?, cause Ive been there before and I know they give out huge portions of food. Right around that time Ill be transitioning from soft foods to regular diet. Thanks!    — Kris T. (posted on February 24, 2003)

We don't have a cracker barrell here in Alaska, but we do go out to eat often. I either share with someone, or I order an appetizer for the entree. It's impossible to take stuff to go while you are on the road, so don't feel guilty if you order something and can't eat it. It's been very hard for me to waste food, but that's what happens a lot. The guilt is weird, because I can't eat something, and there's nothing else to do but throw it out. I digress... Anyway, have a safe, fun trip. Eat what you can, and forget about the rest. :)

Excellant choice :0) the cracker barrel in Terre Haute Ind. does and infact at this particular cracker barrel, they were kind enough to measure out the 2oz portion my post RNY friend requested. You can order side dishes for around $1.29, or just share :0)

I ate out most of this weekend (unusual but that is what happened). I nibbled on the appetizers that everyone had ordered when they came and then for my dinner I ordered a shrimp cocktail. There were lots of choices such as soup and beef skewers but I went with shrimp because it is safe for me. The children's menu normally doesn't appeal to me so I try other things.

You may want to ask if they can give you "lunch portions" I've gone to Bob Evans a few times, and pretty much whatever you order they can give you in a "lunch portion" which is less amount and less cost! Otherwise when i go out to eat, i either get regular meals and take home the leftovers (i'll eat them later or my boyfriend) Or you can also eat off the appetizer and side dish lists, then maybe eat off of others plates .. lol :)good luck

I don't know about whether they will honor the cards requesting childrens portions, but Cracker Barrel has a wonderful grilled chicken tenderloin that is very moist and tasty. I seem to remember you get either 4 or 6 tenders with the dinner. Not the whole breast mind you...just the small tenderloin. I would order that and a doggie bag. Somebody could have a decent midnight snack back at the hotel :)

Cracker Barrel lets anyone order from the kids menu. It says on top of it "For kids of all ages" (or something like that). Anyway, I got the hamburger off the kids menu before and ate it without the bun. You also get one side. Have a nice trip.

They also have a leaner breakfast menu. I ordered a scrambled egg and a piece of turkey sausage. It was more than I could eat, but got the protein in.

Yummmmm!!! We travelled cross country from NY to Dallas this past summer, while I was pre op. We stopped at Cracker Barrel whenever we could. We don't have them in NY. I miss the chicken and dumplings!!!! The closest one I know is in Mt. Arlington, NJ. I think you will be fine with the breakfasts. A single gg w/ ham or something like that . They are very accomodating!!
