Question:
I am wondering if there is anyone who had a lower personal goal
than what the dr. said. My dr. says about 130 is good. I would like to go to 114-118 I am 5 foot and1\2 inch. Is this attainable? or am I just setting my self up for failure? I am almost 6 months PO and down 60 pounds I wanted to be at MY goal in 1 year I don't know if I will make it or not. I still have 50-54 pounds to lose. — Lynne K. (posted on January 7, 2003)

Hi. I'm not sure if it's an unreasonable goal or not, but I do think that
so early on that is a pretty big goal to deal with. I started at 350 and
to think about getting to about 140 seems sooooooo far away and hard work.
I have personal decided to take it 10 pounds at a time. That way it
doesn't seem so hard and I don't get too discouraged. Do I think you can
do it....darn right! We gotta keep ourselves going, but will your body go
for it, that's the question, right? lol We all know how that goes. Good
Luck and I hope you make it :)

The excess weight that you should lose is 65-85 percent. That is the
percentage that is considered a success. Your goal may be different.
Start at one goal at a time, and also have an 'ultimate' goal for yourself.
When you make the 85% of excess lost, then consider yourself a success,
and then keep on going if you want. That way you won't feel like a failure
if you don't make it to your ultimate goal. I have lost down to a normal
BMI/nomal body fat% and feel like a success. But I have not reached my
personal 'ultimate' goal just yet. And if I don't, I will accept where I
am because I do feel great! But just 10 more lbs would be just wonderful!

Lynne,
When I begun my WLS, I set my own goal at 175, I never even went by the
internet if I did my goal weight would be 180, how-ever I have since then
changed my own personal goal, I look in the mirror and still see 30 more
pounds that I could shed, It'll take some work on my part and some
restraint, but I think I can do it.... With your guy's help ! I know I
can....
Everyone on this site is my motovation.
I also have an added motovation, I've started a WLS group at work, I was
the first to have WLS and now they're are 2 others out there at the work
place.... gotta love it...

Lynne, I have lost down to 110 at 5'1". That's 12 lbs past my ideal
weight on the chart. My 1 year anniversary is Jan. 22. Don't get
discourged, you can do it

Maybe. I'm 5'1", 110-115. I think my type of surgery & my post-op
plan has MUCH to do with getting me & keeping me here. But I can tell
you I was surprised. I'm surprised every day that I wake up normal sized.
T\I've never gotten past the "It's a miracle" stage.

My surgeon never gave me a goal. He just said by body would know. Well, I
set my goal for 147. By 9 months, that was done. I was happy. My body
was not. I continued to drop the weight though it slowed down to the point
where by 12 months, I had lost just 25 more lbs. In December, I lost
another 2 lbs. I fluctuate up and down between 110-115. I like it best
when I'm at 110, but everyone tells me I'm too thin. My doctor likes 115.
I have little or no control over it. When my scales go up beyond 115, I
take a serious look at water, protein and exercise. So far, Praise God, it
always comes back down. I'm trying to get to the point where I don't
constantly worry about gaining a pound or two. I eat right and exercise
and feel wonderful. That was the whole point, wasn't it.
