My BMI was 40.0 the day of surgery (which isn't exactly under 40 per your
question, but...) and I weighed 226. I am 5'3". My surgery was May
16, 2002. Today, I weigh 137 pounds and just wore a size small (4/6)
sweater and a size 6 pair of jeans at a New Years Eve party. If that
doesn't give you some encouragement, nothing will! =) The most common
statement I get now is to stop losing because I look too thin. They think I
weigh about 115 pounds! I am lovin it!!

I have a BMI of 39 with high blood pressure. I am 4'11 and was 193.5 at my
dr visit in Nov. (now 197 due to holidays) I have been approved and am
waiting for my second sleep study to get a date. I have been 50 + lbs
overweight for over 10 years. If I couldn't lose the 50, I wonder how on
earth I could lose 100 lbs without this surgery. From what I can tell from
reading this board, we tend to lose slower. I have the fear that I will go
through all of this only to lose 40 - 50 lbs but my Dr says I should reach
goal with no problems. Good luck to you!

I started out with a BMI of 42, by my 4 month checkup I had lost 100lbs. I
was told I would lose slower than average due to being a lightweight but
for me that was not the case.
I weigh in now at 120 and feel wonderful, so don't give up hope because it
can be done.

Hi...my BMI was 40.7 and actually just a little less on date of
surgery...due to the liver shrinking diet that my surgeon requires 5 days
pre op...anyway...Surgery was 11/16/01...I got to doc's goal of 140 in less
than 6 months...had a TT at 6 months post op (6/12/02) and I currently
weigh in at 119-123 (depending on the time of the month) I wore a pair of
22/24 jeans to the hospital on 11/16/01...today I wore a pair of size 2
jeans from Old Navy :o) I am just about 14 months out and my body is
still changing...it's definitely a heck of a ride.
Have a Sparkling Day
