Mine base it on type of surgery you choose. 60-90g proximal, 90-120g medial, 150-180g distal. Personally, I choose to be at 180g or more. Gives me more appetite control. That's all supplemental protein, BTW. Any we get in food is just bonus.

my surgeon told me 40g daily. i have never used a protein supplement, but, im sure i get more than 40g because my diet consists of fish, seafood, some chicken, some pork, cheese & eggs. i dont eat any beef because it NEVER sits well in my pouch.

My surgeon recommends a minimum of 45 grams/day....the amount in a medium chicken breast...for his proximal RNY patients. He only allows protein supplements for the first six weeks post-op, then is adamant that his patients learn to eat "normal foods" and develop normal eating behaviors, getting their necessary daily protein from their diets. At 32 months post-op, my serum protein levels are still in the high-normal range following his post-op regimen. Best wishes!

I was told 60 is enough - but until the statistics are in as to how much we probably assimilate - I go for 80 to 100 - at 11 months out from rny proximal.

Once we're on solid foods, my surgeon recommends we try to get in at least 70 grams of protein a day.

It depends on how big you are. I was a lightweight and I was told 60. Someone over 300 pounds would need more.

My doc recommended 60-90 grams of Protein a day. THAT is difficult to do. Especially when the protein shakes they recommended only had 9 grams per can. I went to GNC and bought Whey Protein. You mix one scoop with 8 ounces of skim milk. It has 20 grams of Protein per shake. It has worked wonders for me.

I had open rny 10/7 and I'm down to 266lbs from 303lbs. My doctor wants me on 50-90 grams of protein a day. I use the IsoPure protein shake. Two scoops for one serving (50g protein) with 12oz of milk (12g protein). It's easy, it just tastes like liquid cardboard!

Before you start packing in the protein grams from shakes, bear in mind that you can only absorb 30 grams of protein per meal (or per two hour period). The rest is a waste.
