Suck on sugar free ice pops. I didn't care for them before surgery, but
early post op they were my best friend. They keep your mouth and throat
nice and moist. Best of luck! -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -137

Since it's only been about 10 days or so since your surgery you are
probably still experiencing some operative dehydration - even though you
are drinking the "right amount" of water. Just keep sipping away
and it should pass in another week or two. I found that drinking some
Crystal Light Pink Lemonade - watered down - really helped relieve the dry
throat better than anything else did. Congrats on coming over to the
losing side!

I would disregard what you think is the right amount of water... DRINK,
DRINK, DRINK. Have water with you at ALL TIMES. NEVER BE WITHOUT IT. Have
it by your bed at night and drink as much as you can every time you wake
up. Personally I don't think you can get enough the first couple of months.
I remember that thirst... it's terrible. You can drink fast or much at a
time, so it's important to drink constantly.

Doctors say that, by the time you actually feel thirsty, your body is
already dehydrated and is crying out for fluids. Yes, the recommended
water intake has always been 64 oz., but I think it should be even higher
for post-ops who had the RNY, since they are eating very little food, and
food is a normal source of additional fluids. If you're still feeling
thirsty on 64 oz., try 72 oz. or even 80 oz. Go up until you no longer
feel thirst. Water "toxemia" doesn't "kick in" until
you're drinking about a gallon of water per day. Only then does water
become harmful to your body.

Snowcones! Hawaiian Shaved Ice.com has some great sugar free snow cone
flavors and a terriffic ice shaver. This is what really got me through the
thirsty times.
