Question:
Do you have PHCS insurance?
My place of employment is changing health insurance companies effective January 1, 2002. Does any one have PHCS insurance? Did you have any dificulty with approval? Were there any main questions/information needed? Please email me at [email protected], as I do not get a chance to come online very much. — Sammi G. (posted on October 30, 2002)

I had PHCS - Nippon LIfe when I had my surgery. As the previous poster
said, PHCS isn't the carrier. However I have to say that my experience
with Nippon Life was excellent - don't know about the other companies that
use PHCS. I only had to have my height, weight, blood pressure and BMI and
I was approved within 10 days.

Hi, I have Trustmark PHCS. I am also a medical collector and coder. This
is how it works. PHCS is a "network". Networks work as a big
group for smaller insurance companies. This makes the insurance co's more
uniform and recognizeable. Say you're making an appt with a doctor they
ask what insurance you have. When you tell them PHCS the know that they
are contracted with them, rather than having to keep up with a thousand
small insurances. Now when it comes down to benefits, your employer picks
out the ones that they do and do not want. Many employers choose to
exclude things like cosmetic surgery and weight loss procedures because it
makes the premiums higher. The information you need now is who the
insurance carrier, not the network, ie: Trustmark is my insurance ( and
that is who i had to submit my predetermination to) and PHCS is my network.
Once you find out who the insurance is you can ask your employer for a list
of plan exclusions. This list will line out all procedures and therapies
that are not covered by your group plan. If infact is dose state that
weight loss surery is excluded, you may want to speak with your employer
about that, it is the employer who chooses what benefits will be provided.
You will only be spinning your wheels if you try and fight the insurance on
an exclusion, because it's not up to them. I hope that helps.
