How do I calculate your death risk due to obesity?

I have been looking everywhere for information on how to calculate your death rate percentage due to being morbidly obese with a BMI of 47. Can anyone help? Thanks!!! my email is [email protected]    — Marla J. (posted on October 27, 2002)

I have no idea how to calculate a death rate percentage, but the yearly death rate for the morbidly obese is usually 10 to 12 times as great as that for people of normal weight. The risk involved in remaining morbidly obese for only one year is 8 to 10 times greater than the risk of undergoing stomach surgery.

I had searched everywhere for this exact thing when I composed my own letter this summer. I found it and posted it on another Q & A question and couldn't find the question I posted it to. After spending much time searching and trying to remember where I found it, I finally found what you want!! :-) I hope this helps you and others this link calculates your BMI AND has the statement: Given that BMI you are estimated to be at ___ % increased Risk of Dying as compared to a person with a BMI = 21. http://www.clos.net/bodymassindex.htm Good luck to you! :-) Open RNY 9/20/02

That site is a weight loss surgery site. One of their objectives is to scare people into surgery. I wouldn't necessarily believe it. AND, what's hilarious is it says I have a 70% greater chance of dying that a person with a BMI of 21. They don't specify a time period! Don't we all have a 100% chance of dying?!?!??! LMAO!!!
