Question:
I've been vomiting 2-3 hours after eating. I can't drink, it just sits there?
I'm careful to chew well and am mindful of portions. — Terry C. (posted on October 27, 2002)

How far out are you? It could be a stricture.

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like your stoma is either blocked or
has become so small nothing can get through. Go see your doctor in the
morning.

Hi Terry! I had a similar problem from months 2-6 post-op. But - I was
usually vomitting up mucus, not food persay. My doctor had me try Pepcid,
then put me on Prilosec which helped tremendously. At about 6 months out
it stopped. Didn't seem to matter what I ate, how fast/slow, how chewed
up, etc. It was just my body. My stoma was fine, no strictures or
anything. Another tip I learned was that if it is food (and not just my
body playing tricks) have a cup of hot tea. That would make things better
for me too - the food would choose which way to go, so to speak! I hope
this helps, email if you need anything further. Definitely talk to your
doctor to put your mind at ease and find a solution. =) Sarah

Hi, I just went through the same thing. At 3 weeks post-op, it felt like
everything sat right in my chest, kind of like reflux. I couldn't keep
water or anything down, had an emergency EGD done, and a small pill (for
reflux none-the less) was blocking the outlet. While in there, the doc
discovered that my stoma exit was very small. WELL, another 3 miserable
weeks later, I'm vomiting everytime I eat anything other than liquids, and
had another EGD, this time to dialate the stoma exit. An upper GI 4 days
later showed that everything was now moving through fine, and FINALLY at
(almost) 8 weeks post-op, I can eat something without vomiting!!
I would call your doc and see about getting an upper GI
right away! Good luck to you and hang in there. There is hope!!
