Question:
MediCal Hoops
I was wondering what MediCal asks of you and your PCP as far as tests and consultations and so forth before giving an authorization to a surgeon? Thank you! Marla Jones — Marla J. (posted on October 17, 2002)

Hi Marla! It really depends on if you have an HMO along with the
Medi-Cal.... HMO: You will have to go with the dr.'s that are in their
network. If you have "straight" Medi-Cal, you will be approved
based upon your dr. deeming it "medically necessary." (Examples
are: backaches, headaches, heavy menstrual cycles, depression, foot pain,
joint pain, breathing problems, etc...) They [the dr.'s office] will send
the paperwork to the state for approval. Hope this helps!:)
