Question:
Is lifting the only thing that will cause hernias? I am very concerned. Thanks.

Not the only thing...excessive coughing can, as can straining hard when you
have a bowel movement.

I fell and when I caught myself, I tighted my tummy area so tight it caused
my hernia. Please be careful.

I had heard that a hernia was just something that you could pretty much
count on after an open RNY, so I was very careful...I got one anyway! I
don't have a clue as to what caused mine. It doesn't hurt and the Dr. said
that we will worry about it when I lose all of my weight.

In a open procedure the muscle wall is cut. 30% of opens get a hernia. LAP
the rate is near zero. This from my surgeon. If you are unlucky and develop
a hernia then it can be fixed. So dont worry the weight loss will make it
all worthwhile..,.
