Question:
Why dones everything taste so salty?
I am 6 days post-op (wow, its weird to say that) and I am quite upset about this. The first couple f days out, I didn't eat a thing. The day I arrived home from the hospital and still now, EVERYTHING tastes overly salty (with the exception of eggs and apples). Now I did a lot of research before surgery and I had never read this. I have been really upset that water (which I LOVE) even tastes salty. I am aware that our taste buds change, but salty? I spoke with a friend who said that the same thing happened after her surgery (not WLS) and it was from the anesthesia. Anyone else have this happen? She said it lasted about 7 days? Is this true? Oh, please tell it's about over. I have been completely miserable over this....Lap RNY 9/20 — karmiausnic (posted on September 26, 2002)

I don't remember that water tasted salty but it tasted nasty. I couldn't
drink plain water at all for about three weeks. Then it got better. And
fruit juice was worse - it was so sweet. I drank a lot of V8 Juice and
Strawberry Orange Banana Crystal Light. Those were the only things that
tasted good to me the first week I was home. I was on liquids so there
wasn't a lot of choices.
Your taste buds will go through several changes the next few months. Try
to be patient - it definitely does get better.
