Question:
What all is involved with this, my insurance company requiring this
Does every ins. company require this? What all is involved with this. — Donna M. (posted on September 21, 2002)

Not all insurance co. requiring this just some. My ins. co. did reqiring
one. At frist I thougth they were nuts but later I found out they wanted to
make sure that I understood the procedures of the surgery and would be able
to comply with the food restrictions and not over eat. Also making sure my
weight problem was not psychological. First try to find a psychologist
that has dealt with this surgery and has approved other patients in the
past.

Donna, my ins co required it and I think most do now. Please look at it as
a good thing. I agree with the prior poster, plus, the osychologist wants
to determine that you are not depressed, make sure you do not have an
eating disorder, any addictions and just make sure you are emotionally and
mentally ready for this. Once you have the surgery and/or talk to other
postops, you will often hear that "the head hasn't caught up
yet". Many people after the honeymoon period often start having some
issues and the psychologist really is just a safeguard.
He/she will ask you about your history, your diet history and ask you about
your SUPPORT group in place after the surgery. Mine made me fill out a
test/questionaire.
Good Luck! (open RNY 8/15, down 34lbs)
