Question:
Oddly Colored BM post-op

Hello, I was wondering if any of you know if its normal to have strangely colored BM's after surgery. I know its a bit gross to discuss, but oh well. mine have been almost colorless lately, and its concerning me. a very very very light tan is about as dark as it gets nowdays. I'm about a month and a half postop. thanks for your help.    — Julie I. (posted on September 10, 2002)

What kind of foods are you eating at this point? That probably has a major effect on the color.

Light coloured stools can also be a sign of gallbladder problems -

Mine are very light colored sometimes too. I think it might have something to do with diet or supplements. They were also light colored during gal bladder attacks, but I had my gal bladder out before my rny so I know that isnt the cause now. The weird thing is that they float now too!

The light colored stools are very normal post-op. Mine started 'turning' back to a normal color around 6 mo. post op.

What you eat, how much you eat, the supplements you take.. all of these things can affect the color and odor of your stool post op. They may also float, some say because this is on of the ways fat exits the body.. but I don't know that for certain. Iron will darken your stool, this I know for sure! Remember you are eating much differently so there will be major differences. Your system will normalize more the further out you get. I hope this helps you. ~Peace
