Question:
6 Weeks Post Op, looking for crunchy, salty snacks.

I am 6 weeks post-op and would like to know what there is that I can snack on? I would like to know if there is any type of a snack like pretzels or baked potatoe chips or something of that nature that I can snack on?    — Loretta J. (posted on August 30, 2002)

Try soy nuts! I think they're great. I like the honey roasted kind, but they have just salted ones, too. I get mine at Albertson's, but I am sure they have them at other stores too.

hiya my tastes changed after surgery and especially since for the first few weeks post op just about everything you eat is sweet!! pretzels are good but watch drinking with them cuz they swell...baked potato chips are okay too. be aware of things that are bread/potato based cuz they will swell. soy nuts and other nuts are a good choice, chew them well. i liked string cheese and sharp cheddar cheese with ritz crackers. mashed potatos with butter and seasoned salt was yummy. you can also get the cup of soups that are good. minestrone soup is good because it's salty and you get veggies in it that are nice and soft. scrambed or hard boiled eggs with salt is good and beef or turkey jerky is a handy snack. good luck! kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal weight: 135lbs current weight: 130lbs

I like microwave popcorn. It goes down very easily, and usually the ones with the most butter have the least carbs! I also eat cashews.

Soy crisps are light & crunchy. No fat, no sugars to speak of. 7 flavors, very rich. They are like tiny rice cakes? My current fave is the cheddar cheese. I'm telling you it tastes like liquid cheese sauce!

I love the Wow Chips or Doritos. But I only get the single size servings because I can easily graze on a regular size bag all day long. Pretzel rods are good..lf pop corn...lf Ritz cracker with a thin slice of cheddar cheese and a dab of mustard..mmmm.

I rotate through different things for my salty/crunchy cravings. I do WOW, popcorn, peanuts, Genisoy Crisps, Quakes rice cakes, and my latest fav. is Terra Chips. They are vegetable chips made with exotic vegetables. Very colorful, salty and some are sweet (sweet potato and batata-cuban sw. potato). A wonderful mixture. The high fiber in them really keeps me regular. I have found them at a local grocery store. They are a little expensive, around $5 a bag, but you can't eat many at a time, and I now crave them. My husband thinks I'm nuts! (he doesn't like them). They have a site: www.terrachips.com

Trader Joe's sells Soy Crisps that are heavenly. Each serving has 7-8 grams of protein depending on the flavor. My favorite is White Cheddar, and I love the Honey Barbeque, too. I also like some ritz crackers or wheat thins with Boursin, Allouette, or Rondelle cheese on them. That can really hit the spot and goes down very nicely.
