Question:
Are blood clots hereditary? My father suffered from pulmonary embolisms after
his surgery. — Stephanie S. (posted on August 2, 2002)

I suspect they are. There is a gene that has a little hook on it's tail,
that makes blood clot easier. I want to be tested for it befor3 surgery,
because it runs in my family.<br>Sandi

i'm by no means an expert at all. But when i was pre-op and very scared
about blood clots he asked if any of my relatives had suffered from them.
So i am assuming this means it could run in the family? i said no, and he
said between that and b/c i was so young i shouldn't worry so much. Maybe
you can ask your surgeon or PCP though for a better answer.
