Question:
Any suggestions on how to get my protein in?

I had surgery on July 11, 2002. I am still on a full liquid diet until August 01. I am having an awful time trying to drink the protein drinks. I take one or two sips and my stomach lunches and I can't drink any more. I ordered samples from Vita Lady and have tried many different brands of protein drinks. Any suggestions on how to get my protein in? On the positive side, I have lost 19 pounds. I don't notice the difference but my husband says he does. Thank You, Kim    — Kimberly V. I just tasted a drink a day from vitalady until I found something I could tolerate. I add a tsp of SF jello choc pudding powder to my 1 scoop of ProBlend Mocha Cappucino w/ice and 4 oz water. Works for me. I tasted it the first time at 3 weeks post and didn't like the coffee taste (I'm not a coffee drinker) but noticed that it didn't taste that bad so it went on my "ok" list. Now it tastes great to me. Give yourself some time. The shakes are still the best way to get in your protein grams at such an early stage (I believe they're best throughout the entire time...but you didn't ask that did you? LOL)...good luck and God Bless!

I drank the carnation instant breakfast no sugar added with some added powdered non-fat milk. I kept it in the fridge and would take a few sips at a time and work on it over a period of hours. At such an early stage I still had a hard time getting in all my protein, and my doctor said that it will get easier in time, that to try my best but not to stress out if I dont make it right away. It takes time. He was not too worried about it that soon after surgery. Protein does help you heal so Im not saying it's not important. Im just saying to keep trying, you will get to the amount you need each day. Best of luck to you!!

I drank Boost - it is in the vitamin or liquid supplement section at most stores from grocery to Target. While it isn't necessarily double digit grams, it is a good source of something. They even have juicy flavors. It is pretty sweet so I usually added a lot of ice. It also helps beat the heat. Congratulations on your loss;)

Kim...I also have had a terrible time with the protein drinks, until I came across this recipe somewhere on this website. It is delicious! 6 oz. strawberry/orange/banana crystal light whipped with 4 oz egg beaters, then add in 2 tbslp lite cool whip. It tastes just like a dreamsicle (almost!) I've had one on my way to work for the past 2 weeks. It has 12 grams of protein...not a ton, but a good start to the day!
