Question:
Please, oh PLEASE tell me this will stop soon!

I am in my 4th week of hair loss! My Dr. tells me it should only last another couple of weeks. I don't think I can stand to lose any more! I am literally having nightmares about being bald! What can I take or what can I do to stop it? I have been taking GNC's Hair/Skin/Nails vitamins (2 a day) since week 4 and I am 4 months post-op today! What will stop this? And how expensive is it? (I was laid off 3 weeks ago) Thank you so SOOOOO much for your help! I am nearly in tears! (Lap RNY 3-13-2002, down 62 pounds and feeling great, but bald!! LOL!)    — LaRayne H. I started losing my hair, BY THE HANDFULS, around month 3. I took biotin, but it didn't help. I lost a good half of my hair. Thought for sure I would be the one person on this site to go bald. It didn't stop until month 6! But, I did NOT go bald and you won't either. I know it is frustrating but I think once it starts there just isn't much you can do to stop it. I have heard people say Nioxin works and I have heard people say it doesn't. Just rest assured, you won't go bald.

It seems like it will last forever... but it doesn't. I even bought some new wigs on E-Bay (and actually enjoyed wearing them). I didn't do any thing and it still grew back. I even dye my hair to cover the grey. It started coming ALL back at about 6months. I have my old thick hair back now. Best of luck. Marlene

RELAX, as our surgeon pointed out NO ONE ENDS UP BALD! Its just not going to happen. <P> Would you trade the weight back to get the hair back? See its a great trade off. Best off its just temporary. Less noticeable with a short hair cut...

Hi, I can sympathize. My hair has thinned out too. But according to teh docs I work with every day, it will stop eventually. The body is reacting to the shock of such a dramatic decrease in caloric intake. No, you're not malnourished, just not OVER-nourished, like we all were when we ato so many extra calories. I ate as much protein as I can-at least 80-100 grams/day, take my 2 multi-vitamins along with zinc and biotin and am still having hair loss. I wouldn't spend $$ on a lot of remedies, just wait it out and it too shall pass. I just look at my body and marvel at how it's changed and I can live with the hair looking thinner. RELAXXXXX !! I know it is depressing, but so is being overweight --- my hair thinned out so bad after about 4 or 5 months post op - I bought everything on the market. Then I bought 4 or 5 wigs from Racquel Welch that looks just like my hair (same color) I wore those until my hair started thicking back up (now I am 7 months post op)it is coming back in thicker and blonder than before !! Anyway I went to the salon and had them cut my hair super short all over so it would all grow out the same length and now I am so comfortable with who and what I am - that the short hair thing is working for me.... (I want to donate my wigs to the cancer center when I can TOTALLY get over wearing them) Concentrate on the NEW you and the thinner face.... Makeup and earrings can set off a short hairstyle - Trust me your hair will come back and it will be better than it was before !!! Good Luck - Susan
