hi, I tried mixing with milk and since surgery I have developed lactose
intolerance. Yes you can gain using milk. Try water and fruits. I also use
SPLENDA sugar with some of my fruits to make them not so tart..

I would use water to mix the protein drinks. You can gain with milk. I have
bought several samples of protein drinks from Vitalady.com, and have mixed
them all with water, and they taste just fine

Once I discovered that I was not lactose intolerant after the surgery, I
have been mixing my protein shakes with 4 oz.skim milk. Gives you a
little protein, calcium, not many calories, and yes, some sugar (no
comparison to the sugar I was eating before surgery!!) Makes them taste a
lot better. It is, however, a preference. If you try it and think you're
gaining weight because of it, go back to water. I believe that we are all
so different that what works for one may not work for another. Good luck!

My doctor suggested that I use milk for the 1st 3 months, so that I get
lots of protein. I found a fruity protein drink that I make with water....I
do 1 of each every day.

Approximately 30% of RNY patients develop some degree of lactose
intolerance post-op; some have no problems at all. My daughter has to
drink Lactaid milk, but tolerates cheeses without a problem. If you can
tolerate dairy products post-op, skim milk is an excellent source of
protein, limited calories, and the type of sugar that is found in dairy
products rarely causes "dumping". Good luck!
