Question:
Did you have heel spurs pre-op and did they get better after surgery?
Also, how difficult was it to walk the first time they would let you get up after surgery? — Kay S. (posted on July 5, 2002)

I had heel spurs and now they are gone! I had no trouble walking after
surgery. I guess the pain meds helped with that. My feet were still sore in
the morning for about 2 months, then one morning I got up and the pain was
gone! I had forgotten all about it until I read your question. Surgery
11/9/01. Down 90 pounds- 20 to goal. Good luck!

I, too, had heel spurs that got better after surgery. To tell you the
truth, it wasn't at all difficult to walk that first time. I was just so
GLAD to be out of the bed! I did wear my comfy, spongy clogs, though -
they have a non-slip bottom so I wasn't scared of slipping on the
hospital's polished floors. Margie B

I am only 9 weeks post-op and my heel spurs are GONE! I was in agony
before surgery. It was so bad for about a year before surgery that I
couldn't walk for the first 10 minutes or so after I got out of bed every
morning. It has gone away all on its own. I'm sure the 55 pound weight
loss has helped! :-)

I had significant heel spur pain for several years prior to my RNY. I had
reached the limit for the number of cortisone injections that the
orthopedic surgeon felt comfortable with, and was actually looking into
surgery which is only successful in 30-40% of cases. Immediately following
the RNY, the pain disappeared and I have had no symptoms related to the
heel spur in the past 28 months post-op. I wish you the same good luck!

Hi. I've had heel spurs for the past 15 years, tried everything; cortisone
shots, specially made shoes, medicine, and after 6 months post op, I was
able to stop taking my Celebrex and altho the spurs are gone, the pain the
gone. I stand on my feet 8 hours/day for a living, working on concrete
floors at the post office. I am pain-free, almost. Another advantage of
the weight loss surgery!

It was a miracle, one day, I'd say a month after surgery, I had this foot
spasim happening on my heel. The next day my spurs were gone and they've
never returned.
