Question:
Has anyone had a complete hysterectomy and lost weight afterward?
I was thinking I may actually lose a few pounds ? — Nelda D. (posted on June 23, 2002)

I had a total Hysterctomy on May 6, exactly 6 months post-op from WLS. I
was down to 220# (-110#) the morning of my surgery. Five days later I
weighed in at 238#, a gain of 18#, mostly from fluid retention as a reslut
of the hysterectomy. It took me two weeks to get rid of those 18 pounds
and another 3 weeks to get rid of an addtitional 11#. I have been on hold
at 209# for about 2 weeks now. Don't count on losing a lot of weight just
because you are having 5 or 6 pounds of ovaries, etc. removed and if you
start HRT after your surgery this could slow down your weight lose some for
a short period of time. Your best course of action is to watch your
carbohydrate intake and continue to focus on protiens. That is what I am
doing and I know the weight will continue to come off. This is my first
plateau in 7 months, so I am not overly concerned. Good luck.

I had complete hysterectomy 1 year after my bariatric surgery...
I was still losing weight and had a tough hysterectomy and immediately
follwing the hysterectomy i lost a few more pounds HOWEVER...after
fully recovering and going on hormone therapy I have gained back
around 20 pounds and am currently very nervous about gaining weight and
feel bloated. In my opinion hormone therapy can contribute to puffiness
and weight gain and in my case I require a high dose of estrogen. That is
my experience
and would like support myself in losing the weight I have re-gained plus
relief from
severe headaches I think are hormone related. But initially I only had
about 100 pounds
to lose and can eat many foods some patients can't and have slipped back
into some
unhealthy eating habits.
