Question:
How soon after Wls is this possible.
I'm 5 weeks post-op and need help with my hair. I've always kept it permed and colored but haven't since January. Is there a certain time frame we need to wait on or is it o.k. now. Getting my hair done has always been a major pick-me-up. I'm desperate but willing to wait if necessary. [email protected] — kysunshine (posted on June 22, 2002)

Hi. It is okay to go ahead and have your hair done if you feel up to it. My
m-i-l and s-i-l( sister in law) are both beauticians and they do wls
patients all the time. I had mine done at 7 days post-op. It will be fine.

You go right ahead and get your hair done! I have kept my hair up right
through the process. I have VERY FINE THIN hair, I NEEDED the perm and
color to keep up the appearance of having hair, lol.
best of luck to you

Hate to post something different, but my beautician (who claims to be a
color expert) says thet anytime after anesthesia it is best to wait 6
months before putting chemicals on hair. she says something in the drugs
can affect the hair folicals and couse ones hair to become more brittle. I
have the tendecy to believe her, mainly because I had my hair colored(by a
different hair dresser) about 14 days after open heart surgery. Not only
was the color not what I expected, the condition of my hair was pretty bad
for quite a while. (That hair dresser had also warned me, but I did not
listen.) So use caution if you are working with harsh products.

I waited and waited to color my hair! Finally, I could stand it no longer.
At 2.5 months out, I had it cut and colored. I think it appears shinier
and healthier than before. So far, no hair loss at almost 4 months out.

I completely forgot about this issue & colored my hair with my typical
semi-permanent brand, about 3 weeks out. I don't notice anything different
in my hair texture or moisture level at all... I have fine, 60% gray, nat.
curly hair. My hair looks and feels much better, as usual, after coloring.
No problems here!
