Question:
Please tell me that these hips will melt away too!
Since high school, I have had these big ol' hips. I was MUCH smaller back then, but I have always had the very large fat pockets on my hip bones- they look like mounds. Anyways, I am curious if anyone else has these and if they went away after a substantal weight loss. I know everyone is different, but I am hoping I will not need lipo on my hips since I know I will need a tummy tuck, breast lift and Lord knows what else. My hips have always been the most bothersome part of my body to me....I hope this doesn't come across as vain because I am far from that. I am just afraid of being out of porportion (which I have always carried my weight well, even at 312lbs.). Thanks for your comments! — karmiausnic (posted on June 21, 2002)

My hips and butt have ALWAYS been the largest area on me. Now my butt is
average sized and my hips are down to an almost normal size. You also have
to realize if you have big bones (I do) that no matter how much weight you
lose, your hips could still look big just due to your bone structure. I
told the plastic surgeon I wanted to have lipo done on my hips when I had
my abdominoplasty and he told me he wouldn't do it. His reason was I still
have to lose about 15 pounds and he thinks that when I lose that weight I
wouldn't need any lipo on my hips. Your weight definately redistributes
itself after this weight loss.

My hips were my biggest thing also. They did shrink and I was a size 28
pants and am now a 8-10. I do have some skin around the hip and abdomen
area, not too bad considering how big those hips were. If your planning a
T.T. anyway, just get the belt lift. It covers the hip area also. I am
trying to get approved for the belt lift now.

I have always had a big butt. Even when I weighed 115 pounds, I still had
42 inch hips. ICK! And talk about hard to find clothes that FIT! I was
pleased to find that when I lost my weight from WLS, I became *GASP*
proportional. I now measure in at 36/28/36. I'd actually LOVE to take those
two inches off my waist, but--as they are from loose skin and not fat--I
don't think it's gonna happen. I now fit in stylish and trendy clothes
(except for those blasted hip-huggers--TRUST ME: Don't go there!).
