Question:
This clear liquids thing is terrible.....
Well, so far I am living on chicken broth, jello, water and popsicles. Not exactly satisfying my head although I am not hungry. What do you think the harm is in trying say a bite of rice pudding or some creamed soup? Also does anyone have a tasty brand of chicken broth? The one I had in the hospital was very tasty and this Campbells is bland and YUK! Thanks everyone! — emilyfink (posted on June 16, 2002)

Hi!
I was only on clear liquids for one day and went to soft foods from there
while still in the hospital. So while I would not advise you against your
doctor's orders...I can share my experience with you and tell you that all
went just fine with the soft pureed foods...By the way, I used to go to the
local chinese restaurant and buy the broth they used in Won Ton soup (minus
the wontons of course)and was that ever tasty! Also, College Inn Broth is
not bad either. The best of luck to you. It is a slow, but a sure process
and you are on your way. I had my surgery on February 20th of this year and
feel better every day.
Warmest regards,

Swansons sells various type of chicken broth juch as garlic, herb, etc.
Try dissolving a few bouillon cubes, that should make it taste chickeny.

Hi Emily! I know what you are going through. I am 2 months post-op and
the liquids-only phase was so hard. I was a little spoiled and my aunt had
made me several individual containers (that she froze) with homemade
chicken broth. That was really good, but when I had drank it all I started
drinking the broth from Campbell's chicken and noodle soup. I emptied the
can into a sauce pan and then added a can of water to it,warmed it up and
then drained the noodles. That was so much better than any canned broth I
had tried. Hang in there....you will get through it!

Hi Emily ~ I hated the clear liquid part of the diet too - well, after day
5 & 6 anyway - the first 4 or 5 I was forcing thing down - I think
because of the swelling. But on day 6, my sister decided to cook for my
family and they made burgers on the grill...I wanted one SO BAD. Once you
can move on to full liquids (if your doc prescribes that phase) there are
some AWESOME fat-free/sugar-free fudgecycles that seem to help some. A bit
more thick.

a cube-form. Drop them in hot water and let it disolve - it tasted great.
Do NOT NOT NOT get any cubes that are made for Mexican food cooking - I
made the mistake of doing this and it's a lot higher in fat and it made me
sick for 2-days.

I too hated the clear stage but please try to listen to your Dr.'s orders.
Boston Market makes a wonderful canned chicken and beef broth. I lived on
Crystal light during this time and now I can't stand fruity flavored
drinks.;-) Just remember, this too shall pass. Good Luck!
