Question:
Surgery in June wedding in August
Surgery in June, Wedding in August is this enough time to heal and be ready for the big day? — Vonda F. (posted on May 22, 2002)

I think that is enough time. You may not be able to boogie as much as
before surgery, but unless you have complications you should be feeling
pretty good 2 months out. Just make sure that you have that seamstress
ready at the last minute to take in that dress!!!

It would not have been for me. Someone posted about a vacation yesterday.
Click on the last three questions and read all the responses. Most people
felt that early on they couldn't have undertaken a major effort. With
something as special as your wedding day, you want to be, look, and feel
your very best. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE SURGERY AND YOUR WEDDING!

I think you should be okay. I had surgery in may 22, 2001 and went on a
vacation over the july 4th weekend and did fine. I had developed a
infection in my incision that had to be opened and then packed a cpl times
of day but the vacation went fine. Congratulations on your wedding

I felt pretty good pain wise in 8-10 weeks. However I'm a year post op and
still have no energy. Some days I almost wish I was dead as I'm just so
tired all the time. Most people "say" they have all kinds of
energy. And maybe they do, but it is'nt true for all of us. But you will
probally be feeling pretty good in a couple of months but it seems to me to
be pushing it a bit. But everyone is different.

Pain-wise and incision healing wise you'll probably be doing just fine.
One note I'd like to make...I had surgery 3 weeks ago and I still have a
HUGE (silver dollar sized) PURPLE bruise on my upper arm from one of the
shots they gave me. It is very unsightly. So ask the nurses to be extra
careful in giving your heparin and other shots in a non-visible place, in
case your dress has short sleeves or is sleeveless. I really don't think
this ugly bruise I have will even be gone in two months time. It's kind of
okay with me because I hate my arms and don't wear sleeveless (yet). Just
a little hint...hope it helps. Happy Wedding! Hugs, Joy

Vonda, I don't think that the problem is going to be your physical
strength. What I would completely worry about is the wedding prep. You
WILL NOT feel like doing anything or making ANY plans post surgery for the
first 4 weeks at least if not longer. Planning a wedding is stressful and
if everything is not done before the surgery, I would certainly think that
you might have problems. Your energy level is going to plummet as well as
your emotional health for a few weeks. It just seems that maybe this
should have been planned alittle further apart but I know that at times, we
have no control of this. Also, what about the wedding dress? Is the
company prepared for big alterations? You might lose much more than you
think you will. Losing 30-40 pounds will make a difference in how it fits.
Just keep all this in mind so you can prepare "before" surgery.
I would have everything settled and done before going into surgery.
Congrats and good luck in the future. I know you must be esthatic with all
the changes coming in your life. Hugs

I wouldn't be worried as much about the recovery as I would be about your
dress, you lose so rapidly those first weeks it's like your melting, I
swear I couldn't buy clothes fast enough they were all too big after
wearing them 1-2 times. I really think you will be feeling fine by then,
but be careful with preprations and rest when you need it, and hopefully
you will be fine:) Congratulations on the wedding!
