Question:
do artifiacial sweeteners cause dumping also?

I think I might have posted this as an answer to a question by accident.I haven't had surgery yet,just got my consult scheduled for may 29th,and i'm just wondering if the Artificial sweeteners will also cause "dumping" such as in Crystal lite drinks or added to decaf coffee??    — kim M. NO, they are actually recommended!

I don't have a problem with dumping from them...HOWEVER, I do have a terrible problem with bad gas whenever I use any artifical sweetner since surgery 12 months ago. Good Luck! Karan

Some artificial sweeteners such as maltitol actually are very high in sugar alcohols which CAN cause dumping. I cannot eat a Carbolite bar without getting dizzy, sweats & having to lay down. I have reactions specifically to maltitol. The FDA does not require the amounts of sugar alcohols to be put on labels (yet.).
