Question:
I am 7.5 mos. post lap ds down 110 lbs. recently discovered that I love Tomato juice
Since I've been drinking it though, I've not lost any weight, and am retaining water. Coincidence, or do you think the Tomato Juice could be to blame??? Thanks — domedome (posted on May 12, 2002)

Most tomato juice is high in sodium, hence the water weight gain/retention.
Try low sodium V8. Also, too much of any juice will cause weight gain
(high carb = sugar). Good Luck

I hate to be the one to tell you but, if i remember correctly tomato juice
is the worst juice of them all.....the highest in calories that is....and i
think cranberry is the best. If you have to have some that is. The diet
v9 splashes are that bad if you really want juice and there are also diet
snapple juices that taste pretty good too. Hope i was of some help good
luck....oh p.s tomato is my favorite too.....lol

Depends on if you are drinking V8 or plain juice,
V8 has a trillion grams of sodium (lol) My ankles will look like an
elephant when I drink to much of it (or in the old days, drink Bloddy
Mary's)

As far as calories go, tomato juice is probably the lowest. Fitday.com has
it at 41 calories per 1 cup service, with orange and cranberry both over
100. Diet Snapple has almost no juice in it, since it has almost no
calories. The lemonade has 5 calories a serving and the strawberry-kiwi
has 20. I think it's probably the sodium, since most commerical tomato
juice is loaded with it. There are low-sodium versions, though. I know
that Campbells makes one. That might help quite a bit with the water
retention.

I drink at least one 8oz. glass of tomato juice per day(low sodium kind).
I love it and my doctor says it is fine. The key to anything is not to
overdo. I crave it if I don't have it. I am -60 lbs at 11 weeks post-op.

Nothing wrong with tomatoes, but most tomato juices have high levels of
sodium, which cause you to retain water and not lose weight. Love tomato
juice? Try making your own in a blender, adding just a small amount of
salt.

Hi there,
I drink a can of Spicy v-8 every day. It is such a treat!
I just watch the sodium in my other foods but sometimes,
I do go over the 2 grams that I try to stay under...
But the V-8 is nutritious, 35 calories for 5.5 oz and also
filling. I won't give it up! 11 weeks out and 62 lbs down so
I don't think drinking it has been a bad thing! Good luck...

I am a big V-8 juice drinker. Drink about 1 11 oz can a day. How much are
you drinking because it can be high in sodium and a lot of calories if you
are drinking quarts of it. Might ought to watch your sodium, or it could be
just a coincidental plateau that seem to happen to everyone.
