Question:
Has anyone had a rash (contact dermatitis) preop - and have to postpone surgery?
the rash looks like little red circles and dry chapped skin - on my stomach and sides - tried lamosil, then an Rx -betamethasone (which was bruning so dr took me off) now medicated gold bond powder which is a little better - will they operate in three days - my dr thinks it's either nerves or contact dermatitis - either way - he didn't think it would prevent surgery but I'm going to see surgeon early tomorrow to see what will happen for 4/11 surgery. Please help if you know. Janis — has2begreen (posted on April 8, 2002)

Hi Janis, take good care of that contact dermatitis. My boyfriend's turned
into a nasty infection just recently. The dermatologist said that he was
likely sensitive to neosporin, adhesives, soaps, and everything else he
tried to cure it with that made it worse. She prescribed a prescription
corticosteriod cream (which made an amazing difference) and a topical
antibiotics (he's also on oral antibiotics). Anyway, we found the only
thing that helps him are steriod creams like hydrocortisone. A
dermatologist could easily diagnose and treat the rash, you should try to
get in to see one. It's kind of hard to take care of problems after
surgery. I mean, what's a headache now is a real pain in the butt to
manage when you have so much else going on. I would try very hard to get
to a dermatologist. They can also do a quick scrape and make sure it isn't
fungal in origin or secondarily infected. Good luck, I hope you feel
better. Meredith

I have the same rash you just described! It has actually come and gone a
few times over the last few years. My doctor didn't really ever tell me
what it was exactly but he gave me something to put on it, it worked but
the next winter it came back. It may sound weird but tanning totally clears
it up everytime for me.
