Question:
Is it REALLY normal to loose your sex drive almost 8 mos out???
Hi Everyone: Has anyone noticed a DEFINATE decrease in their sex drive post op. My bloods are great and my weight loss is wonderful. But I have NO INTEREST WHAT SO EVER in sex...Could it hormones or a vitamin defeciency????? Thanks for any advice (and my husband REALLY thanks you) — Joi G. (posted on March 28, 2002)

I think that I can relate with you. Today is exactly my 8 month
anniversary and my husband and I have only had "relations" a
couple times since surgery. I don't think it's because of decreased sexual
drive. I believe mine is because I am totally afraid of getting pregnant
at this crucial stage of my postop recovery period. I was told to wait at
least 12-18 months to get pregnant. Even though we've been told that I do
not ovulate (weight related? not sure) but also have been told that rapid
weight loss makes you "fertile mirtle". My husband is really
enjoying the new me and wants to really "enjoy" the new me, so
tell you husband he is not the only one out there going through
withdrawls...(Tina Torrey, Spanaway, WA 08/28/01 60" distal RNY -85

I know exactly how you feel. Though I am only almost 5 months post op I had
NO interest in sex at all. I spoke to my surgeon several times about this
problem and she kept telling me it would get better, but ......
So I went to see my PCP and she gave me hormone pills and testerone cream
that I rub on daily and it has really helped ALOT.

Hi Joi! Yes, I am almost 10 mos out and have been experiencing the same
thing!! Now mind you, it works out perfectly for me because my hubby is
gone ALOT (weeks at a time) so I wouldn't want to be sitting home, alone,
with no outlet if I was horny!! LOL!! I know this is abnormal because the
last time I lot a good chunk of weight (pre-op), my sex drive came roaring
back and I'm 60 lbs lower than I was then! I went to my pcp and she
confirmed that it is a slight case of depression, normal post-op, I'm NOT
depressed, just kinda blah sometimes, lack of motivation, I should have WAY
more energy for as much as I've lost, so. . .she started me on Wellbutrin
SR and it is working little by little. It's not one of those
"UPPERS" kinda depression meds, it seems to be very subtle. My
blood work and loss is great too, so it is probably the situation as me.
Of course, ask your Dr, but those that are familiar with WLS will look for
these symptoms in you and know that they are expected. Good luck and Many
Blessings,

Perhaps it is not UNUSUAL...but....I would not venture to say that it is at
all NORMAL....
Personally, mine has increased significantly.....

I noticed a definant decrease in my sex drive. I don't feel sexy and that
doesn't help. But I am on two different anti-depressants and an anxiety med
also, so that could be a major reason too. My poor husband:(

After my surgery I kept having a sore area on my back and thought it was
surgery related. No nurse looked at it and when I got home saw that it was
a huge boil. I have had one a few months before in a different area. I
certainly wondered if my body was trying to get rid of something in my
system. So I have no answers either. Only questions. I'm going to see a
dermatologist next week about a psoriasis type of rash that has developed
now.... Sheesh!! Alice From Dallas

Sorry hit the wrong button! I have been through menopause, take Wellbutrin
and find just the opposite effect. And we've been married 23 years!
