Question:
Do protein shakes count toward daily caloric count?
I just added up my total calories for the day and I am quite shocked. With the protein drink, my calories were over 1200!!! Protein was 86, which is good but, wowzie seems like alot of calories. What do you all think? Oh by the way I am 11 months post op. — DebPKansas (posted on March 8, 2002)

Yes protein drinks count toward your daily calorie intake. And I think at
11 months out that 1200 calories sounds good. I am eating at least that
many if not way more some days.

anything that has a calorie and goes into your mouth counts. but for the
amount of time you are out 1200 isn't bad .just ans any thing that is
liquid at room tempature is concidered as part of our liquid intake

I do not count protein drinks with water toward my calories. I get appx
1200 in protein ALONE, but I get 180g of protein out of that. I mix with
water, because empty calories I WOULD count against me. I'm sure I'm eating
another few hundred, at the very least, and I'm still under 110#, after
many years. I am distal, but the rule seems to hold true for proximals as
well.

Deb, as my physician says, "*All* calories count!" You might
want to speak with your surgeon and/or GP to see if 1200 calories is
appropriate for you...and best wishes!
