Question:
3.5 months post-op & suddenly retaining water and edema in ankles
I am 3.5 months post-op. My weight is coming off nicely (I am down 80#). In the past 2 weeks or so I have begun to notice edema or water swelling in my ankles at night. My weight lose has slowed down some as well. I had terrible edema pre-op and was so happy to have it go away almost immediatly post-op. But now my ankles are swelling again and feel stiff. They are fine in the morning and thru out the day, but in the evenings they start to swell up. I have not changed what I eat, but I do consume a little bit more then I did at 1 or 2 months post-op. I exercise daily on an exercise bike and I walk, weather permitting, at least 2 or 3 times a week. My job is a lot of being on my feet. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do for it? — Susan M. (posted on February 24, 2002)

Get thee to the doctor asap!!! What you are describing could be from not
eating enough protein...this can be dangerous as it affects your kidneys.
You need some blood work. Good Luck!
