Question:
am I going nuts? water tastes like metal
I have asked questions about weight loss, had some good answers, followed through with some tips and still no weight loss or inches lost. In fact I am sure my stomach and belly is bigger. I have stopped eating my oatmeal in the morning and replaced it with protein drink, snacks are replaced with pure protein bars. Food is mostly protein, small amounts. Water is actually 1/2 water, 1/2 gatorade mix. That's another thing...since surgery water makes me gag, tastes really bad, all kinds and sits heavy in my stomach. All the diet drinks, crystal lite etc are too sickly sweet tasting to me, I ate a lot of low fat pb but just noticed that it's tons higher in carbs than regular so I switched. Started doing taebo advanced to get me going but still stuck at the same place. I feel like nothing that I do is helping, I am going in circles with no way out. I'm not eating tons of food, watching carbs, no sweets...what else can I do? — Mandy M. (posted on February 12, 2002)

No you are not nuts! I am the same way! I'm 4 weeks post op and can't do
plain water at all. Not only does it hurt my tummy, but it taste like I'm
licking a pole. I'm drinking hot tea now, and not only does it not hurt my
stomach, but it doesn't taste like metal chips anymore.

What kind of water are you drinking? I can not drink tap water. It makes
me gag. The best, most reasonably priced water is Dasani from Coke. It
is refreashing and doesn't have an after taste. At first, I would squeeze
lemon juice in it to make it taste better, but now I just drink it plain
with lots of ice. Try bottled water and by the best brand(it does make a
difference).

Are you having any nausea? Please get set up with your doc for endoscopy
ASAP. Not ER, but very soon. A marginal ulcer can be a nuisance OR it can
make really big trouble. Finding it, treating it--that's a breeze if done
early enough. If your doc has experience with them, he might just treat
accordingly w/o the scope. But please don't assume it's your
"mind" going. I spent 6 miserable months because I thought it
was "my mind".

I was the same way! Not only did it taste bad, but it felt so heavy in my
tummy it would sometimes make me vomit. After my last Endoscopy (my 4th)I
no longer have this problem. Good luck!!

Being a biologist (but NOT a doctor), it sounds like it may be ketosis. I
would check with your doctor. I'm sure it is something they would want to
check out. Ketosis is not something to ignore either.
