Question:
Can someone help me with a blood clot question please?
Ok well I just found out that my work really wants me to go in for a while tomorrow. I will work from about 9:00 to 2:30..I work at an auction and I am back and forth quite a bit so that really isn't a problem. I am back to worrying about blood clots again. I haven't sat with my legs down once since I got home from the hospital and I know I will have to for a little while tomorrow or I will get too tired. Is standing the same as walking? I know that sounds dumb but I hadn't thought of that before. I can pretty much stand most of the time and will that be ok for the prevention of bloodclots? By the way, I am 6 days post-op, Lap RNY and feel wonderful!!! — Jennifer Z. (posted on February 12, 2002)

I have not had my surgery yet. It is the 28th..Yipee..But blood clots is my
main concern, since I have a desk job. They told me that while I sit to
just stretch my legs out every once in a while and rotate my feet or move
my legs back and forth like peddling. Hope this helps you. Good luc and God
Bless!

Blood clots happen when blood pools in the extremities and circulation
slows down. As long as you're moving (even if it's just to flex your
ankles up and down while sitting) you're safe. You might also consider
wearing some kind of support hose, as they hold things together pretty
firmly, squeezing the legs and promoting circulation.
