Question:
Does "weak" hot tea count as my liquids

Hi all: I am 6 mos post op and all of a sudden I gag when drinking plain water or any type of liquid that is cold or room temperature. But I find that a great cup of very weak hot tea mixed half with non fat milk really settles my tummy. I drink 2-3 cups in the morning and 2-3 cups in the evening....Does this count as my water????? I'm getting in almost 60 ozs during the whole day. The tea is so weak that I can get 3 cups of tea from 1 tea bag. I am getting in most of my proteins as required but can't seem to swallow any other liquids except hot tea. Will this do until I can tolerate any other liquids??????    — Joi G. Caffeine can dehydrate. I am 7 months post-op and have been drinking weak decaf tea (no milk) and counting it as almost all of my 60 oz. since the beginning. And I am minus almost 140 lbs. now. So, decaf tea, yes. CAFFEINE--bad...baaaad....decaf goooooood-good :-)

Only decaf tea counts as a water. If you drink tea that has caffeine, onlt half counts as water.

If it is herbal tea, yeah, count it as clear liquid. But once you mess with it, with moo, you've changed it from a clear liquid. After just spending 3 days in the hospital with my dh about kidney stones, I'm paying more attention to the water rules than I did earlier. I made exceptions, too. Cost me a kidney stone. BUT it's a far different thing for ME to have one than watching the man I love thrash about in agony for 2 days before they helped him surgically. Please be careful. And if you are feeling pukey or if water is tasting funny or hurting your pouch, take it to the docs.
