Question:
My doctor performs what he calls a variation of the RNY.

Stomach pouch is the same. He does not disconnect (cut) the intestine instead he makes a hole in the intestine and connects it to the pouch. Has anyone heard of such a variation? Is it successful?    — Earl Z. (posted on January 19, 2002)

Does he transect? Cut apart the stomach to create the pouch?

When the pouch is created he leaves the pouch and newly created lower stomach connected but completely cut off from each other.

earl my surgeon does the rny the same exact way. he staples between the pouch & stomach 8 or 9 rows (i forget which) but then he reinforces the staples by stitching over them! much less chance for staple line disruption this way. good luck.

If I were you, I'd find out EXACTLY what this procedure is. It sounds to me like the old BillrothII procedure that has numerous health problems connected with it. I hope I'm wrong! But please find out what this is before you have it done. Here's a picture of it: [http://www.fourlane.com/mgb/pictures.htm] Take care for now...
