Question:
Has anyone heard or had experence with a Iud becomming less effective? ?
I have the Iud and have heard a rumor or two about the Iud becomming less effective after a large amount of weight. I was hoping to find out if anyone knows if this is true or false. Thank you. — Vickie P. (posted on November 19, 2001)

I don't know why it would matter with an IUD. I know that with a Diaphragm,
it is recommended that they be refitted (get a new size) for every 15 lbs
weight loss. But, IUD's don't come in sizes, and they are inserted in a way
that they stay put until you decide to have it removed....weight loss might
not matter. BUT - bottom line - this is NOT an issue that you want to take
the word of list chatters on - go to the expert - your DOCTOR!!!

I'm 6 weeks post-op, and I also had this concern. I was concerned enough
to make an appointment with my gynocologist. She said that the IUD will
remain effective, even if I started out at 400lbs and dropped to 100lbs.
She said not to worry at all. Hope this helps.
