Question:
Internal Sutures coming out!!!
Hi1 I am just about 3 weeks post op from a LAP. Has anyone ever had a stitch come out of the incision site? I have one sticking out about 1/2 an inch. It has to be one of the internal stitches as I was steri stripp closed externally. Help! I do see Dr. Needleman on the 7th, but was really curious. Thanks! — Sheila K. (posted on November 3, 2001)

I had this. It was at the end of an incision where the knot came undone.
The doc said if it bugged me, I could cut it off, so I did!

Yea! I didn't have it but I specifically remember my doctor saying it may
happen. He said if it does DONT PULL IT. Cut it off and go on.

i havent..(yet) but my husband had open Gall Bladder surgery and his still
come out from time to time. Like the others, he just snips them off. He
thought at first one was a pimple and he tried to "pop" it...soon
forgot that idea!!!!!

I had lap RNY on 8/21/02 and today, one of my internal sutures pushed
through one of my incisions. I called the doctor and he advised to just tug
it with tweezers as much as I could and snip it off at the surface. He said
that it would do no harm if I were to pull too much and that with pulling,
the whole stitch might come out due to the ability of the stitch to
dissolve internally. He said once it is outside of the skin and in contact
with air, you have to cut it since it will no longer dissolve.

I to had a suture sticking out doctors said since above skin it needed to
be snipped. the nurse snipped it then when i got home few weeks later a
little more came out . so i just got some tweezers and pulled it out myself
no pain in doing so . Now I dont have the problems anymore. :)
