I am interested in finding out what these stinky little goobers are too.
You are not alone.

I have had a similar experience. It was from my tonsils though. You may not
be able to tell where they came from when you cough. It is very gross! I
did have my tonsils removed because they became painful and it was
happening all the time, but I'd go get it checked out by your doc!

My allergy doctor said those wierd little things are dead skin/throat
sluffings that tend to collect in the little pockets in our tonsils. They
are absolutely harmless, but they do hurt a little when they dislodge if
they take some of the living tissue out with them. My doctor recommended
that I gargle salt water periodically to try to dislodge them (he said the
salt tends to shrink up the tissue so they pop out).

How funny to hear someone else has this strange occurance too! I remember
years ago asking my grandmother what it was, and she told me it was bile!
I never questioned it, just thought, Ok.. now I have an answer! The tonsil
thing sounds more realistic :) great question!

I have this problem more frequently than you but its the same thing. These
little balls that stink so much are waste from your lungs. When you cough
they come up and they do smell terrible if you mash them. They are harmless
and just a way your body has of getting rid of anything that gets into your
lungs that shouldnt be there. Smokers tend to have more of these things
than others.

My guess is, because you try not to drink with meals some of the food
particles do get lodged in the crevices of those bumpy tonsils. After a
while they break loose. It seems like many are posting about this, and that
is something everyone has in common, not wanting to drink during and after
you meals.

Gee, where I come from they are called hairballs. Seriously though I have
had the same problem for a long time even before my surgery. My doctor
told me somtime ago to gargle with the salt water also. It works and will
help dislodge these little balls. Just one other comment in response to
the one anonymous reponse. The only thing I have found ignorant about this
site are the people who hide behind the "anonymous" signatures.
I don't mean all the people who sign anonymously just the ignorant ones who
like to criticize and do not have the nerve to sign it but have to hide
behind anonymous.
