Question:
Can I have WLS if I had Ovarian cancer?

I had ovarian Cancer in 1997. In 1999 I had my GallBladder removed and in 2000 I had a hysterectomy. I have a BMI of 45.2 can I have WLS with all of these past operations?    — camfam2005 (posted on May 29, 2001)

Tracie, don't worry. I've got you beat! Hernia repair, C- Section, Circlage, Diagnostic Lap, total hysterectomy, three bladder repairs. I had open rny 2&1/2 months ago with no trouble at all.

Tracie...I went and read your profile. The concern about you having had cancer is legitimate, especially if you have had radiation therapy. I had cervical cancer 12 years prior to WLS and ended up with multiple complications. I had a very rough year the first year post op but I am doing fine now. Just hang in there and discuss everything with your surgeon in great detail. I wish you the best of luck, from a fellow cancer survivor.
